The objective of Beras Basmathi is believed to have been cultivated in the Indian subcontinent for centuries. The earliest extant work to mention basmati rice by name is Heer Ranjha.

Add 1 cup of Basmati to a bowl and cover with water and soak for 20 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water then add 2 measures of water to one measure of dry rice to the pan. Bring to the boil and simmer for 10-12 minutes. Remove lid and leave to stand for 5 minutes.
